Results of CIDOC's questionnaire

Daniela Daneliuc

The CIDOC Board together with the CIDOC Services WG initiated a survey of CIDOC members on the occasion of the Annual Meeting, in Nuremberg, last year. The Survey's goal was to update the existing information, to develop the existing data with information about the members activities and to evaluate the audience for the use of CIDOC' publications and documents on standard.

A questionnaire was sent to all members twice, first with the 1997 Annual Meeting Minutes and later on with the Call for Nominations.

The Questionnaire was made available on the ICOM web site from April 1998 [until 2001. Now withdrawn.]

Although the data collected by this time may not illustrate the real level of the "cultural diversity" of CIDOC, I think it would be worth to present some statistics and to draw some conclusions of this study.

Total number of members who answered the questionnaire: 150 out of some 900 members. Only 6 answered the questionnaire on internet!

These figures highlight some interesting points:

Obviously this survey would have been more relevant if all the 900 CIDOC members had answered the Questionnaire. Nevertheless, even these figures should draw the attention of CIDOC to stimulate information exchange among its members, within the museum documentation community and to encourage all members in becoming more involved with the Committee's activities.
